Optimization of indica/japonica rice cross breeding strategy and breeding practice

Indica/japonica rice cross breeding is a basic approach to achieve breakthrough in rice breeding. As the subject to develop indica rice introgression by japonica rice, various breeding strategies of indica/japonica rice cross were analyzed. The use of typical japonica rice and adoption of three-way cross (backcross) were preferential method with labor-consumed. To solve the problem, Indica CMS line/typical japonica rice with maintaining ability// indica rice with restoring ability, a strategy which can shorten the duration of breeding with little workload, was put forward. The course of the breeding and the achievements were reviewed and prospect of breeding was viewed.
