Screening and identification of antagonistic SAT1 and its potential for biocontrol of pepper phytophthora blight

    • Numerous soft rots of pepper are caused by Phytophthora capsici, which give rise to serious economic losses of agriculture. An emerging trend is applying a mixture of diverse group of microorganisms as the most economically feasible practical strategy. A total of 15 endophytes were isolated from 6 medicinal plants, and an antagonistic Streptomyces SAT1 were screened by antagonism assays and was identified as S. anandii, the crude extract from the fermented liquid and volatile substances of SAT1 obviously inhibited the growth of Phytophthora capsici. The spore suspensions of Streptomyces SAT1 could improve the plants resistance to pepper phytophthora blight and obviously promote the growth of pepper seedlings.
