Physiological effects of Ca2+ on inhibiting the seasonal“Green ear”of anthurium spathes

    • To inhibite the appearance of seasonal “Green ear”of anthurium spathes in Hainan, the physiological effects of different concentrations of Ca2+ on the potted cultivar ‘Dakota’were investigated. The results showed that with the increase of Ca2+ concentration, the incidence of “Green ear”decreased and the color parameters a* and C* of the ear part of the spathe as well as the total anthocyanin content (TAC) enhanced significantly. In contrary, the content of chlorophyll dropped dramatically. The higher concentration of Ca2+ was benefit for the accumulation of soluble sugar and protein in the spathes. The results indicated that the treatment of 8 ~10 mmol/L Ca2 + since July could improve the anthurium “Gree ear”.
