Studies on the allelopathic effects of chinese eaglewood

    • The allelopathy of Chinese eaglewood and its ethanol extract was explored on plant seedling growth and seed germination,in order to broaden the ecological and economic benefits of its resource plant Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Gilg. The allelopathy of Chinese eaglewood and its ethanol extract on Cucumis sativus L., Brassica pekinensi, Raphanus sativus L. and B. campestris was evaluated by petri dishes filter paper method. Volatiles of Chinese eaglewood stimulated seedling growth and seed germination of the four plants above. On the contrary, its ethanol extract inhibited seedling growth and seed germination. Crops can be planted in the forest of A. sinensis to increase its economic benefits.
