The combination of space mutagenesis and quality-resistance screening provides an efficient way for novel rice germplasm creation and new variety breeding. Huahang No. 31 was developed through cross breeding of new germplasm created by space mutation.This variety shows the characteristics of high-quality, high-yielding, disease-resistant. The rice quality reached the national standard of quality 2; the total resistance frequency ranged from 98.4% to 100%, of which the group B is 96.9% to 100% and group C is 100%. The average yield of the two-year regional test increased 6.95% than CK. The highest yield was 10.91 t/hm2 and was listed as one of the leading agricultural varieties in Guangdong Province in 2011 and 2012.
