Preliminary study on boilogy habit and karyotype of Astronotus ocellatus

The morphological characteristic, living habit, growth, reproductive and karyotype of Astronotus ocellatus were studied and analyzed. Astronotus ocellatus is carnivores. They were able to adapt to a wide range of temperature,even the lowest was 11.4℃. The saulty experiments showed Astronotus ocellatus lived the sault 32, death rate was 23.7% and 15.4%. The relationship between body length and weight of Astronotus ocellatus can be expressed by the equation: W=0.0911L2.7233（r=0.9612）. They reached to their first maturity at 1+, and produced spawns many times in one breeding period. The fertilized eggs were demersal and adhesive. The accumulative temperature in embryo period was 1 466.4℃.h. The number of diploid chromosome is 2n=48 and the karyotype formula is 4m+20sm+18st+6t, NF=78.
