Status and Development Strategy of Passion Fruit Industry in Guangdong Province

Originated from South American countries, Passion fruit (Passiflora) is a well-known tropical fruit with high value of nutrients, ornament and medicine. Passion fruit industry is a new industry that has been developing vigorously in Guangdong Province in recent years, with broad market prospect. In this study, the status and main problems of passion fruit industry in Guangdong province were analyzed, includeing insufficiency of high-quality germplasms, a chaotic market of seedling industry, lack of integrated and effective culture technology, insufficient prevention of pests and disasters, imperfect industrial chain of production, marketing and processing of passion fruits, and insufficient scientific and technological support and policy support for industrial development etc. It is an urgent need to solve these problems which constraint the integrated use and development of passion fruits in Guangdong province. In light of these problems, corresponding strategies were proposed as follows: strengthening the collection and utilization of passion fruit variety resources; strengthening the cultivation of passion fruit varieties by appropriate cultivation technology; facilitating the construction of innovation alliance of passion fruit industry in Guangdong Province and diversifying the forms of production and marketing; playing the supporting role of science and technology and enhancing the training of new business subjects; and strengthening the policy support and management of passion fruit industry.
