Abstract
To study the population growth abilities of Phenacoccus solenopsis rared on various maturities of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis leaves,we observed and compared the suivival rate, developmental duration, adults’sex ratio and reproductive capacities of P. solenopsis lived on tender, mature and old leaves. The results indicated that the survival rate of the 1st and 2nd instar larvaes decreased from 96.38% and 93.56% to 81.14% and 89.13%,with the leaves’ maturities rising, while the 3rd instar larvaes’ livability showed no significant difference in various leaves. The developmental duration of the 1st instar larveas rared on tender leaves(4.92 d) was significantly shorter than the ones(5.67 d for mature,5.93 d for old) rared on other leaves, while the 2nd and 3rd instar larvaes showed no difference in various leaves. The mealybugs lived on the mature leaves owned the highest fecundity(eggs/single female) ,which was 361.78 in all. The fecundity of individuals fed on tender and old leaves was 305.1 and 319.79. Additionally, the highest sex ratio (0.66) of offsprings were those rared on mature leaves, tender leaves(0.61) and old leaves(0.54) fell behind.
