Abstract: With the development of global change, as a type of geological hazards land degradation has become an important issue.The paper reviewed the research progress on land degradation at home and abroad from the main driving factors of land degradation including water and soil loss, desertification of land, soil salinization and land pollution etc, land degradation process including physical degradation, chemical degradation and biological degradation, dynamic monitoring and evaluation of land degradation, protection method of land degradation. And the focus of future research directions were also discussed.
