Abstract: Biochar is a friendly environmental functional material, with good environmental effect and ecological effect, which has recently been paid more attentions to the environmental science and soil science field. In order to promote the biochar research and application in the tropics, the author summarized the basic properties, the improvement of soil fertility, increasing carbon emission reduction and crop growth, and discussed its application in the tropics, to provide the reference about agricultural production and environmental protection in the tropics.
